AND AS PART OF THAT, THIS PAST YEAR, WE WERE AWARDED THE COMMUNITY IMPACT GRANT FROM TEXAS HEALTH RESOURCES SPECIFICALLY FOR THE CITY OF, WELL, THE ZIP CODE OF PRINCETON. SO PRINCETON RESIDENTS AND THOSE LIVING IN THE ZIP CODE FOR OUR PROGRAM TO HELP PREVENT VIOLENCE AND PROVIDE SUPPORT TO FAMILIES THAT ARE STRUGGLING, MAYBE ECONOMICALLY WITH FOOD SUPPORT AND GENERAL ALL AROUND KIND OF RESILIENCE FOR CHILDREN AS WELL AS FOR PARENTS.
OUR PARTNERS ON THIS PROJECT ARE THE SAMARITAN INN IT.
AND OUR OTHER PARTNER ON THIS PROJECT IS DESTINY'S LEADERS, WHICH IS A MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FOR YOUNG.

SO OUR PROGRAM INVOLVES A SIX-WEEK WORKSHOP SERIES FOR BOTH PARENTS AND CHILDREN.
WITH THAT, WE PROVIDE A WEEKLY FOOD DISTRIBUTION TO FAMILIES THAT PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM.
IN ADDITION, WE HOST TWO ANNUAL OR TWO HEALTH FAIRS EACH YEAR.
COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIRS, BRINGING IN A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND INFORMATION.
REGISTERING PEOPLE FOR HELPING TO REGISTER FOR COMMUNITY BENEFITS MEDICARE OR MEDICAID AND JUST TRYING TO HELP IMPROVE THE OVERALL WELL-BEING OF THE COMMUNITY.
AND THEN AFTER FAMILIES HAVE COMPLETED THE SIX-WEEK WORKSHOP SERIES, WE'LL HAVE MONTHLY ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES ONCE A MONTH FOR THOSE CHILDREN WHO'VE WHO'VE GONE THROUGH AS WELL AS PEER SUPPORT GROUPS FOR ADULTS.
SO OUR PROGRAM, ANYONE IS ELIGIBLE SO LONG AS THEY LIVE IN THE ZIP CODE 75407.
A PARENT AND CHILD MUST ENROLL TOGETHER AND THERE MUST BE AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING.
SO THEY CAN QUALIFY EITHER BECAUSE OF SNAP, FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH, MEDICAID OR BE IN FAMILY CRISIS, OR IF THEY DON'T MEET ANY OF THOSE CRITERIAS, IF THEY HAVE SOMEONE IN THEIR FAMILY WHO HAS EXPERIENCED FAMILY OR INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE, THAT THOSE ARE THE TWO QUALIFYING FACTORS. SO HERE'S JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR WORKSHOP CURRICULUM.
SO AS I MENTIONED THE TURNING POINT IS THE LEAD AGENCY ON THIS.
WE PROVIDE FREE TRAUMA COUNSELING FOR SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE ACROSS THE COUNTY.
AND SO ONE OF OUR, OUR THERAPISTS ACTUALLY LEADS THE ADULT SECTION, PARTICULARLY ON TRAUMA AND RESILIENCE AND HELPING INDIVIDUALS UNDERSTAND KIND OF THE IMPACT OF MAYBE ADVERSE EXPERIENCES THAT THEY HAVE HAD EITHER AS A CHILD OR AS AN ADULT, AND HOW THAT. HOW THEY CAN COPE AND BUILD RESILIENCE WITH THAT TO HELP STRENGTHEN THEIR FAMILY OVERALL.
WE TALK A LOT ABOUT FAMILY DYNAMICS, ABOUT COMMUNICATION, ABOUT HOW TO STRENGTHEN THOSE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PARENTS AND CHILDREN ON IN COMMUNICATION ON AN AGE APPROPRIATE LEVEL. WE HAVE A SESSION ON FINANCIAL LITERACY, ON GOAL SETTING, BECAUSE THE PREMISE OF OUR CURRICULUM IS LARGELY BASED ON HOPE THEORY, WHICH IS BASICALLY INDIVIDUAL'S BELIEF THAT TOMORROW IS

GOING TO BE BETTER THAN TODAY AND THAT THEY HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE IT SO.AND SO WE DO A LOT WITH GOAL SETTING BECAUSE OF THE EVIDENCE THAT BACKS THIS APPROACH IN TERMS OF POSITIVE IMPACT AND THEN RESILIENCE PLANNING, KNOWING HOW TO GET SUPPORT, HOW TO REACH OUT, HOW TO CREATE A COMMUNITY PLAN THAT CARRIES PARENTS THROUGH, ESPECIALLY DURING A TIME WHEN YOU KNOW THERE MAY BE ECONOMIC CHALLENGES, JOB CHALLENGES, ETC.
SO OUR YOUTH PROGRAM KIND OF MIRRORS THE PARENT PROGRAM AT AN AGE APPROPRIATE LEVEL.
A LOT ABOUT HEALTHY COMMUNICATION, ABOUT BEING A GOOD FRIEND, HEALTHY BOUNDARIES A LITTLE BIT OF FINANCIAL LITERACY AND GOAL SETTING AND, YOU KNOW, BRINGING FAMILIES TOGETHER TO STRENGTHEN THEM AS A MEANS TO HELP JUST INVEST IN THE COMMUNITY AND BUFFER AGAINST VIOLENCE THAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY OR THAT MIGHT OCCUR IN THE FUTURE TO GIVE THEM THE SKILLS TO TO BE RESILIENT, TO OVERCOME THAT. SO, SO FAR WE AND THIS WAS AT THE END OF THIS PAST YEAR.
SO IT'S A LITTLE BIT HIGHER NOW. WE'VE DISTRIBUTED 108 FOOD BOXES TO FAMILIES.
WE HAVE ENGAGED 41 CHILDREN AND 18 PARENTS, AND WE HAVE BEEN OPERATING UP UNTIL THIS POINT, PRIMARILY IN THE LIBRARY. IT IS NOT IT HAS BEEN SUCH A GENEROUS SPACE AND WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE IT, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN IDEAL FOR THE KIND OF WORK WE'RE DOING.
IT'S VERY SMALL. THERE IS NOT SPACE TO SEPARATE REALLY PARENTS AND CHILDREN.
AND WHILE THE PARENTS AREN'T NECESSARILY TALKING ABOUT EXTREMELY SENSITIVE THINGS, THERE ARE, YOU KNOW, IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PARENTS TO TALK ABOUT THEIR STRUGGLES OR WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO.
AND SO BECAUSE OF THIS AND IT'S ONLY OPEN ON UP TILL ABOUT 6:45.
SO OUR PROGRAM, YOU KNOW, I THINK WE'VE BUILT A STRONG FOUNDATION, BUT THERE'S SO MUCH MORE THAT WE COULD DO TO HELP SUPPORT THE FAMILIES OF PRINCETON. THIS IS A COMPLETELY FREE PROGRAM.
IF WE HAD A BETTER VENUE SPACE. AND SO THAT IS THE REASON WHY WE HAVE COME FORWARD TO SEE IF WE COULD ARRANGE SOMETHING TO REGULARLY USE THE NEW COMMUNITY CENTER SPACE.
