IT IS A CONCOCTION OF A BUNCH OF LOCAL AGENCIES, ATTORNEYS, STATE AGENCIES, AND TASK FORCES THAT HAVE COME TOGETHER TO TRY TO COMBAT MOTOR VEHICLE THEFTS.
THEY PUT TOGETHER A FUND THAT HELPS LOCAL AGENCIES GET EQUIPMENT THAT CAN LOWER THESE CRIMES.
THROUGH THIS GRANT, WE WILL BE SEEKING CONTINUED FUNDING FOR SIX BLOCK CAMERAS THAT WERE APPROVED LAST YEAR.
ON TOP OF THAT, WE'LL BE SEEKING SIX MORE CAMERAS INCLUDING A LIVE FEED POLE CAMERA THAT WOULD BE USED IN HIGH ACTIVITY AREAS.
WE ALSO WILL BE REQUESTING MOBILE VEHICLE TRACKERS, A VEHICLE LEASE PROGRAM, AND THE POTENTIAL SALARY AND BENEFITS REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE DETECTIVE THAT CURRENTLY HANDLES ALL OF OUR REGULAR MOTOR VEHICLE CRIMES OR ALL OF OUR VEHICLE RELATED CRIMES.
COST OF THIS GRANT IS A 20% CASH MATCH FROM THE CITY.
SO THE GRANT TAKES CARE OF 80% OF IT.
SO WE PAY THE MONEY UP FRONT FOR THE EQUIPMENT.

VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM, NOT THE LICENSE PLATE READERS, BUT JUST IDENTIFYING THE VEHICLE BASED OFF A DESCRIPTION, WE WERE ABLE TO FIND THAT VEHICLE, FIGURE OUT WHERE IT WAS STAYING, AND EVENTUALLY TAKE THE TWO PEOPLE THAT WERE RESPONSIBLE INTO CUSTODY AND RECOVER SOME OF THE GEAR.
FACE MASKS, GLOVES, AND THEY WERE SWITCHING THE LICENSE PLATES ON THEIR VEHICLE.
SO EVERY DAY WE WOULD RERUN THAT CAR TO HAVE A NEW LICENSE PLATE AND BE IN A NEW PART OF THE CITY.
